So today is our community meal and tonight we will be featuring chicken shake and bake drum sticks, fresh carrots and peas and tater tots.
I always get excited on community meal morning, though it will be a long day,it is a worth wide endeavor.
Usually Laura and I start at 9 or 10Am to get everything going,so when we meet again at 3pm all we have to do is set up and do the last of the preparations to our food.
Funny the morning is usually very quite, with just a minimal of people coming and going,as the day progresses more and more activity and familiar faces show up and the meal is on,with all of us running to meet our quest needs.
We serve about 40 friends and have take homes for anyone who is in want or need of more food to take home.
Last night I prepared 4 graham cracker pudding cheese pies which took me less then half an hour.
Most things we make don't take allot of time but some meals, like today's,require dedicated people to spend several days making nutritious, great tasting meals.
The joy of doing this work is that we provide fellowship to the lonely.
One lady told me if it where not for this meal, she would never eat with anyone.
How sad is that, something you and I take for granted, people around to talk to,she feels is a blessing.
Well its off to shower and the race begins, but this is a race I truly enjoy and look forward to.
Praise God I can help my community in this small way

our community meals

This is a new blog for me,but in the past 5 years I have assisted in the running of our church community meal.
Though we are a small church in numbers,we are mighty in determination and force.
With the advent of our priest and chairperson, going on to pursue other avenues in his life,we have come to the cross roads of who will now continue this important twice a month food program.
My friend Laura and I,with the support of our spouses and friends, have decided to pick up the mantle and carry on so St.Michael Orthodox Church,in Southbridge Mass. will continue our monthly community meal.
I am planning on using this blog as a vehicle to keep you,the reader, up dated and informed on all our  joys, trials and adventures in this new realm of our lives.
I believe that when you do something with a pure heart and good intentions you, most times, succeed in your ventures.
We have been blessed with the assistance of a small number of helpers and a freezer filled with food.
This venture,at present, seems to be a great, successful program.
We serve not only those who hunger for food but also companionship.
We offer a small table, set up for donations of non perishable items, which allows those with meager funds to feel free to take home what they need to get them through to the next paycheck.
Being small does not allow us to get assistance from food banks, since they want to help in much larger food pantries, using their resources to feed the greater good.
We are able to buy food through our great price watching and church assistance, also money donated by those who attend our meals with the desire to also contribute for this worthy program.
Our goal is to assist and meet the needs of those who come to us and help them relieve some of their loneliness and hunger.
So with that in mind it will be a joy to keep you updated on our ventures and if you are in Southbridge mass on the first and third Thursday of every month, between 4:30 and 6:30 pm,please drop by and join us.We are situated on Romanian avenue...
We'd love to see you and have plenty of food and conversation to share with you..
